If you would like me to take part in an event, please contact me. I love taking part in book festivals, talks, author events in bookshops and libraries, writing workshops, interviews and school visits.
Depending on what’s happening on the farm, my husband Chris sometimes joins me to talk about illustrating the books, and how he’s dyslexic but has found things he’s good at. His strengths are often my weaknesses, so together we make a good team.
For illustrated talks, I have a laptop and digital projector. Or I can bring a memory stick if audio-visual equipment is available. A typical interactive presentation, with pictures via Powerpoint, lasts from 30 to 40 minutes plus time for questions afterwards. I can cover a variety of topics: the story of how I became a writer, stories about our animals, a discussion about how animals are depicted in books or an exploration of how we include our own experiences in our writing, for example.
I can even give a tour of Lundy (the setting forA Stallion Called Midnight) in words and pictures, which is especially useful if you are planning a trip there.
I have a wide range of props I can bring for interactive story-making sessions – a gigantic horseshoe that could be used as a wishing shoe, for instance, or a variety of model animals and people.
In addition, I have compiled some worksheets about my stories, (with key stage categories AF6 and AF7 particularly in mind), helped by a friend who is a teacher. I can Email these free of charge – even if you don’t want a school visit but want to use my books in class – so please contact me if you’d like them.
I’d love to attend events for free, but unfortunately travel is expensive, time is in short supply and I have to make a living. I’m self-employed, and I can supply a quote if you let me know your requirements. I don’t charge VAT.
Please contact me, and we can discuss what you have in mind.
“I am so glad that you enjoyed your visit as much as we did. The girls could have asked questions all afternoon!” Elen Curran, Librarian, Francis Holland School, London
“Victoria Eveleigh came to Molland WI and gave a wonderful talk about her books and the inspiration for them. She had lots of beautiful slides of her farm, various animals and Lundy Island. All the ladies really enjoyed the evening hearing about how she works as a writer and the support from Chris, her husband, whose charming drawings illustrate her stories. Everyone agreed Victoria was one of the best speakers we have ever had!” Valerie Jackson, Molland WI Programme Secretary
“Thank you so much for coming to speak to both our Senior School and Junior School pupils on World Book Day for the launch of your latest book, Joe and the Race to Rescue. Your visit was a great success and enjoyed by everyone. We were all captivated to hear how you became both a farmer and an author and to see the slides of all the lovely Exmoor ponies! Our budding artists in school were pleased that Chris was able to join you for this visit. I think you will agree that some lovely artwork had been done in preparation for your visit…”Mrs E Taylor, librarian at Exeter School
“Our visit from Victoria was great. She took the children through a powerpoint of her life on the farm which kept their attention. Victoria made a point of relating her books to boys as well as girls, and it was fascinating to learn how much she uses real life experiences in her stories. Her visit went like clockwork – just as planned!” Russ Constant, form teacher, Class 5, Bishops Tawton Primary School
“Victoria Eveleigh & Hilary Bradt educated and entertained us with a brilliant double act, bouncing information and experiences off of each other. Two very different equine storytellers gave us insight into writing for children, travel writing and publishing. All in all it was a wonderful evening.” Marian Lloyd, Simonsbath Festival organiser
“Just to say a really big thank you for today. I’m so glad you came. You and Chris are wonderful. The kids were so enthusiastic. Loved your company. Have a good few days in the Highlands and a safe journey home.” Kim MacLennan, teacher, Lochcarron Primary School, Highland, Scotland
